Got in a car crash on the past weekend and it is really making life suck as far as the insurance, getting a way to work etc. but the thought of Christ continues to surface to the forefront of my mind and I am stuck with the question Why do I believe what I believe? I am advocating that every follower of Christ ask the same question. It may seem like a push in the wrong direction if you are one of those play-it-safe types. It is not giving up faith but holding on to faith and wrestling with it.

Okay I saw it and I am awed. Don't listen to the critics. Go see it!!! Go see the Passion of Jesus Christ!! My faith is not only revitalized but I see it in a whole new way.

Here is a page of links related to the Mel Gibson film "The Passion of Jesus Christ" including Medical Aspects of Jesus Crucifixion

Whatever christian or jewish critics have to say I am praying that this movie will awaken people to the reality of Christ's death and what God went through to have a relationship with men. I hope that the blood and gore snatches it from triviality and meaninglessness.

The passion of Christ opens on tomorrow March 25th- Ash Wednesday. Check out the trailer Passion of Christ

Aside from my obvious spiritual bias I endorse the movie because I know Mel Gibson can bring it as far as a director. U saw Braveheart and if you haven't then you are sleeping. Mel knows what a cinematic epic is and I can't wait to see "The Passion"

After being so near to death it makes you value life. Your relationships, your day to day choices all take on a whole new meaning. My recent car accident has made me ask this question: Who have I been neglecting and if I died right now would I regret that I did not spend enough time with them?

All this over a car accident but it's the honest truth. God has used that to make everything go in slow motion so I could really see.

Here is an interview with Gigi the internationally famous ethiopian vocalists. Her debut album "Gigi" ripped up the international charts and has recently released a sophomore effort "Abysinnia Infinite: Zion Roots". In this interview she talks about her life, her music and the international music scene.

One thing really stood out to me is the thought of the voice as a sonic instrument and texture as opposed to a conveyor of meaning. Sometimes how we sound moves others just as much as what we are saying.

Sean Barlow: "So I imagine most people, at least in your international audience, relate to your voice as sort of a sonic instrument, a texture, as opposed to conveyor of meaning."

Gigi: "One thing I learned in the studio doing this record...it was different musicians, not Ethiopians. They come, listen to songs, they don't know what I'm singing about. They translate it just from listening to melodies. So I believe that the listeners, also, translate (my songs)in their ears. They understand the emotion and the spirit of the songs and they get involved in it, even without understand what I'm singing about. So I'm happy about that. People get actually moved by just the songs. Just like I'm moved by Oumou Sangare or Salif Keita, you just listen. They are beautiful people. I don't think I'm that good of a singer, but that's what it is"

Even if I am shouting to the world that God loves them or whispering the same thing it may not move them because of how I sound.

"We are Liberal Artistry and We got lyrical tapestry and we rock with the audacity to infuse musical mastery. It goes Liberal, Lyrical, Musical!"

This is a picture of the hiphop group I do vocals for called Liberal Artists.
This is the music of the world today. All over the world from London to Dakar to Jakarta to Rio there are b-boys and b girls who all speak the same language and have a greater influence on their peers than parents or pastors. God is doing something through Hip Hop but will the church seize the moment?

The semifinals for the African Cup of Nations is full of suprises. Senegal and Cameroon the only two African teams to make it to the world cup were taken out whcih leaves it wide open for Tunisia, Morocco, Mali, and Nigeria. I would put my money on Tunisia. They are playing on their own turf. Here is more about the tournament from BBC Sports
